Our Athletic Training Program has transitioned to a Professional Master’s degree program, as was mandated by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). Our last undergraduate cohort will graduate in May 2023. We are no longer accepting undergraduate cohorts. The first Master’s degree cohort began in May, 2023 with an expected graduation in May 2021 and we are continually reviewing applications for incoming cohorts.
Upon completion of the Professional Master’s degree, students will be eligible to sit for the Board of Certification (BOC) examination. Once a student successfully passes the BOC examination, they are eligible to apply for athletic training licensure. The program is proud of its 100% first-time pass rate since 2013 on the BOC exam for our undergraduate program, and will look to continue this tradition into our Professional Master’s degree program. Athletic Training is an allied health care profession which has been formally recognized by the American Medical Association (AMA) since 1991. It is defined by the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) as the “prevention, diagnosis, and intervention of emergency, acute, and chronic medical conditions involving impairment, functional limitations, and disabilities.” Athletic Trainers are often seen on the field helping in the treatment of sports-related injuries. Off the field, they also work with active populations in helping to bring injured people back to healthy activity or sports play. The Certified Athletic Trainer, in cooperation with physicians and other allied health care professionals, is an integral member of the health care team.
